A Weekend in Belitung
So close, yet so far.
I guess Belitung is that kind of destination. It is less than an hour away from Jakarta, but not enough people are going there.
For my trip with KANO this time, I decided to take a few friends to spend a weekend there.
Belitung is divided into 2 regions East Belitung and Belitung. We decided to go east first.
East Belitung is the hometown of our beloved Jakarta's (ex)governor, Ahok, and Andrea Hirata, the author of 'Laskar Pelangi'. This part of the island was also used for the shooting of the film, so we went to check out some of the places.
Andrea Hirata also built a museum here. it is said to be the first (and probably the only) literature museum in Indonesia. The museum contains, hundreds of writings, pictures and stuffs about Laskar Pelangi. It is a very colorful museum, and very interesting as well. One of the best museum I've been to.
Nearby the museum is Ahok's family residence. The family are still actually live there, and even greet the visitors sometimes.
Another thing to do in Belitung is Island Hoping. Belitung has some unique landscape, compared to other islands in Indonesia. The Beaches along the islands have some big granites instead of just corals and sands. We can even explore a bit deeper to the island and going in between the granites to find some secret pools.
The lighthouse in Lengkuas Island also offers some insanely beautiful view.
One thing that we felt in Belitung is how relaxing the live there.
The people are just so laid back, and everything are done in a chill manner. They also have a strong coffee culture. Many people spend hours in coffee houses all around the town. We managed to visit one of the original 'Kong Djie' coffee house. It is a traditional coffee house, no wifi, no cozy sofa, or anything. Just good coffee and good people.
A weekend of beautiful nature, good culture, and awesome people.
Weekend well spent.
